Mulyadi Font Review for Branding and Design

There’s something oddly comforting about starting a new brand project with a blank canvas. I recently found myself in that moment—opening a fresh brand board, sketching out ideas for a boutique skincare line, and trying to find the perfect font to bring it all together. That’s when I stumbled upon Mulyadi, a modern, whimsical, and thick lettered paint brushed script font from Script Amp. It immediately felt like the right fit.

A Whimsical Touch for Modern Branding

Mulyadi is a script font with an authentic handwritten look and feel. The brush strokes are thick and expressive, giving each letter a sense of movement and personality. Unlike more formal script fonts, Mulyadi feels casual yet refined. Its modern aesthetic makes it stand out without being overly ornate or hard to read at larger sizes.

I tested it on a logo concept for a handmade soap brand. The name was short, so Mulyadi worked beautifully as a display font. It added warmth and approachability, which aligned perfectly with the brand's mission to offer natural, handcrafted products. The thickness of the strokes gave the logo a tactile quality, almost like you could feel the texture of the paint on paper.

Testing Mulyadi Across Real Projects

I used Mulyadi across several branding elements to see how it performed. On a packaging mockup, it looked great on product labels and bottle caps. The font didn’t overwhelm the design but instead brought a personal touch that made the packaging feel more human and less corporate.

For social media graphics, Mulyadi shone in headlines and call-to-action buttons. It added a playful edge that matched the brand’s voice. However, I noticed that using it for long body text wasn’t ideal—it became harder to read when stretched over multiple lines. This made me realize that Mulyadi is best suited for short phrases, logos, and decorative elements rather than lengthy paragraphs.

In web design, I placed Mulyadi on a homepage hero section. The font paired well with a clean sans-serif font for body text, creating a balanced visual hierarchy. It also looked good on a business card design, where its hand-painted look complemented the minimalist layout.

Font Pairing and Practical Considerations

Mulyadi pairs well with both serif and sans-serif fonts. I found that pairing it with a bold sans-serif like Montserrat created a strong contrast that worked well for headers and titles. For a more elegant look, I tried it with a classic serif font like Playfair Display, which gave the design a timeless appeal.

When working with Mulyadi, I recommend testing it in different weights and sizes before finalizing any client work. It’s important to check how it looks on screen versus print, especially for packaging or printed materials. Also, don’t forget to review the font’s licensing terms if you plan to use it in commercial projects, templates, or digital products. Ensuring proper licensing is crucial for protecting your work and respecting the designer’s rights.

Limitations and Best Use Cases

While Mulyadi is a versatile font, it’s not suitable for every project. It’s not ideal for small sizes or long blocks of text due to its script style. If you're designing a website with large amounts of body copy, it’s better to use a more readable typeface for the main content and reserve Mulyadi for headings or accents.

It also might not be the best choice for formal corporate branding or legal documents where a more traditional and professional look is required. However, for creative studios, handmade shops, local restaurants, and other small businesses looking to add character and warmth to their branding, Mulyadi can be a fantastic asset.

Overall, Mulyadi is a display font that works best as a headline, logo, or accent element. Its whimsical and modern style brings a personal and realistic feel to designs, making it a great choice for brands that want to stand out with a unique identity.
